Dia is a general purpose diagramming software. Dia can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams like Flowcharts, Network Diagrams, Circuit Diagrams etc. You can create add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) to draw the shape.
Version 0.96 includes Visio VDX import and export as well as much improved text rendering. 0.96.1 fixes several critical bugs and improves on the VDX import.
Dia supports export of diagrams in various formats including below :

- DXF (Autocad's Drawing Interchange format)
- CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile defined by ISO standards)

- VDX (Microsoft's XML for Visio Drawing)
